La société ED vient de présenter "U-ROBO" (ED-7270), un robot domestique. Son apparence appelle énormément celle de R2-D2 de Starwars. Il fait partie des premiers robots à intégrer des technologies de communication tel que le protocol Zigbee ou RFID.
Il dispose d'une caméra avec reconnaissance faciale, d'un système de reconnaissance vocale, d'un écran tactile de 6,4 pouces permettant sa programmation. Il détecte les mouvements ainsi que la lumière et possède un moteur à 6 axes lui permettant des déplacements fluides et complexes. Il fonctionne avec un Pentium cadençé à 1 Ghz, 512 Mo de RAM, possède un contrôleur WiFi, des ports USB, série et ethernet.

ED presented "U-ROBO" (ED-7270) a sophisticated similarity to the pioneering R2-D2, and can complete a myriad of in-home chores by using the included software to program its pathways, actions, and movements. It works with 1GHz Intel Pentium processor, 512MB of RAM, WiFi, Ethernet, USB 2.0, Zigbee coordinator, RFID reader, and a RS-232 serial port. It also rocks a 6.4-inch touchscreen, programmable display beneath his "eyes," voice recognition, motion / light detectors, and an eight-axis motor.
